We set out to develop a tool for teachers that simplifies the exam grading process and saves time. With this tool, teachers can quickly and efficiently grade exams, provide feedback, and track student progress. The goal is to make assessment clearer and more flexible, allowing educators to focus more on teaching.

I was responsible for being the lead designer, which meant I led the design process and was accountable for developing the user interface and user experience. My role involved ensuring that the design met user needs and was visually appealing and functionally effective. I worked closely with the team, gathered feedback, and made necessary adjustments to achieve the best possible outcome.

Using line drawings, we developed functional concepts that clearly visualized our ideas. These sketches helped us illustrate our plans and improve communication within the team, leading to more effective solutions. The drawings became an essential tool during the ideation phase, as they helped to concretize thoughts and perspectives.

In this version, we noticed that the mobile user interface was becoming too complicated to implement effectively. The complexity of the design made it challenging to ensure a smooth user experience on smaller screens. As a result, we realized the need to simplify the interface to enhance usability and functionality for mobile users.

We focused the design exclusively on the desktop version because we wanted to ensure the best possible experience for users on larger screens. Developing the desktop application allows us to utilize more space for visual content and implement more complex functionalities, enhancing user interaction and efficiency. This approach also enables us to create a more detailed design and optimize the user interface, helping us concentrate on functionality and usability. In the long run, this decision may also facilitate future expansions to a mobile version once we have established a solid foundation for desktop use.

Testing prototype with client

We tested the prototype with teachers to understand how they navigate the exam grading process using the new tool. This user testing provided us with valuable data on the teachers' experiences, challenges, and needs. The insights gathered will help us identify which features are working well and where improvements are needed, allowing us to develop a more effective and user-friendly tool.

We started testing the prototype, where the teacher had to navigate the tool independently. We recorded all discussions and test sessions to analyze the user’s experiences thoroughly. The user was only allowed to interrupt the test if they were unsure of what to do next, which helped us identify challenges and issues in the usage process. Throughout the test, the user was also encouraged to think aloud, providing us with valuable insights into their thought process and actions. The prototype included instructions to guide the user through tasks, and once a task was completed, the user could move on to the next step. This approach allowed us to gather in-depth information about the tool's functionality and user experience.
